Josh Windass fires winner at Orient for Accrington Stanley
Josh Windass notched his eighth league goal of the season to earn Accrington Stanley a 1-0 win at Leyton Orient in the first-ever meeting between the two clubs. The visitors went ahead after 25 minutes through leading scorer Windass who raced onto a through-ball from Billy Kee to slide the ball with precision past goalkeeper Alex Cisak and into the bottom left-hand corner.Windass proved a threat throughout against an Orient defence who were continually outpaced. He unleashed a fierce volley in first-half added time that Cisak failed to hold but Matty Crooks scooped the rebound over the bar from close range.Orient's best chance of the opening period had come after nine minutes when Connor Essam headed a cross from Jack Payne into the path of Ollie Palmer but the striker saw his shot blocked on the line by Kee.Accrington soaked up spells of Orient pressure after the interval.Orient's Palmer failed to convert a chance created by Jay Simpson, but at the other end it was Kee who went closest to scoring when his effort to double the visitors' lead was thwarted by a fine Cisak save.
