Cobblers' hoodoo continues as they thump Morecambe
Northampton maintained their hoodoo over Morecambe with a convincing 4-2 win at the Globe Arena. The Cobblers had never lost at Morecambe and never looked in danger of losing that record in this game after Lawson D'Ath had given them a first-half lead. After a bright start from the home side, Northampton took the lead on the half hour after great work from Nicky Adams. The in-form winger worked an opening for D'Ath who volleyed past Barry Roche from close range.Three minutes later it was 2-0 as Northampton opened up the Morecambe defence with a swift counter-attack. Tom Barkhuizen was dispossessed, David Buchanan broke from defence and his cross found Sam Hoskins who took advantage of Laurence Wilson's slip to drill a low shot past Roche from 12 yards.Chris Wilder's side added a third two minutes after the break when Joel Byrom curled in a free-kick from the right-hand touchline 25 yards out that beat everyone and found its way into the corner of the Morecambe net.The Shrimps hit back after 66 minutes with a goal from Barkhuizen. Jamie Devitt fired in a left-wing corner and Barkhuizen was left unmarked six yards out to head past Adam Smith. The comeback was short-lived, however, as Northampton restored their three-goal advantage with their next attack.Adams was again the inspiration with a great run to the edge of the Morecambe area. He found substitute Alfie Potter and his right-wing cross was cheekily back-heeled home by Dominic Calvert-Lewin from close range. To their credit, Morecambe continued to attack and were rewarded with a second five minutes from time when Kevin Ellison's cross was deflected past his own goalkeeper by Shaun Brisley.
