Northampton and Oldham relegated to League Two

Northampton and Oldham have both been relegated to League Two after a final day 2-2 draw at Sixfields.The Cobblers were virtually relegated before kick-off due to their vastly inferior goal difference while Oldham needed three points to guarantee survival having started the day outside the relegation zone, but they could only draw, which sent them down courtesy of Rochdale's victory over Charlton.The Latics took a crucial lead at Sixfields when Duckens Nazons' cross fell for George Edmundson whose first-time shot left Richard O'Donnell wrong-footed.The Cobblers responded with two goals in the five minutes leading up to half-time as Matt Grimes equalised by slamming a penalty into the top corner after Sam Hoskins had been fouled.And the home side were ahead at the break thanks to a goal in first-half stoppage-time when Johny Placide failed to hold onto Leon Barnett's shot and centre-back Ash Taylor scrambled in.Oldham levelled things up through Thomas Haymer as he was left unmarked to head in Jack Byrne's free-kick 10 minutes into the second-half, but news of a goal for Rochdale meant the draw was not enough to save Oldham, who could not find a winning goal and were duly relegated alongside Northampton.

George Dobson's late goal moves Northampton closer to relegation

George Dobson's stoppage-time winner all-but condemned Northampton to relegation - and left Walsall needing just a point to secure their own safety.Midfielder Dobson's late strike left Northampton - who were twice thwarted by the woodwork - doomed, barring a nine-goal victory over relegation rivals Oldham in their final game.Northampton were almost in front after just two minutes as Daniel Powell's low drive was superbly tipped onto the post by Walsall keeper Liam Roberts.Walsall defender Kory Roberts cleared Matt Crooks' cross-shot off the line in the 23rd minute and, five minutes into the second half, Crooks again went close, steering over Shay Facey's cross from eight yards.Northampton almost won it in freak fashion after 76 minutes as a Matt Grimes cross floated over Roberts, struck the post, hit the keeper and bounced onto the bar before being hacked clear.But Walsall came on strong towards the end and, after Nicky Devlin glanced a header wide, Dobson won it in stoppage time as he steered Amadou Bakayoko's pass into the bottom corner from 15 yards.

Northampton beat Plymouth to boost survival hopes

Northampton Town gave their survival hopes a huge boost with a richly deserved 2-0 victory over promotion-chasing Plymouth Argyle.Goals either side of half-time were enough to hand the Cobblers only a second win in 12 games and bring them to within two points of safety, denting Plymouth's hopes of a play-off place.Northampton took the game to their in-form visitors from the first whistle and should have had the lead when Sam Hoskins capitalised on a mistake from Gary Sawyer before shooting straight at Remi Matthews. Hoskins was denied by Matthews for a second time but, seconds later, John-Joe O'Toole poked in Daniel Powell's low cross to hand the hosts a deserved lead at half-time.The Cobblers were even more dominant in the second half and duly added to their lead just after the hour-mark when, after Matt Crooks went close, defender Zak Vyner turned Powell's cross into his own net.The home side had further chances to rack up a more convincing victory but Powell, Hoskins and O'Toole were all denied by the outstanding Matthews.

Bury relegated following defeat to Northampton

Bury's three-year stay in Sky Bet League One is over after Ryan Lowe's side were beaten 3-2 by Northampton.The Shakers were relegated after Ash Taylor's second goal of the game, in the 87th minute, handed the Cobblers a win which keeps their survival hopes alive. Taylor's winner came as he tapped home Dan Powell's cross.An end-to-end first half began with Northampton striking first after six minutes when skipper Taylor glanced home Matt Grimes' corner from close range.Bury levelled five minutes later when Peter Clarke lashed home from five yards after goalkeeper Richard O'Donnell punched Zeli Ismail's corner straight into the skipper's path.The visitors regained the lead just past the half-hour mark. Substitute Sam Hoskins had only been on the field for two minutes when he met Grimes' through-ball and beat Joe Murphy from 15 yards.Northampton's John-Joe O'Toole nodded against the foot of a post shortly before the interval.Bury made it 2-2 with 16 minutes left when Danny Mayor brushed off a couple of weak challenges before smashing home from 12 yards, but Taylor had the final say.

Pressure mounts on Northampton as Blackpool cruise to victory

Blackpool heaped more pressure on struggling Northampton with a convincing 3-0 win at Bloomfield Road to pile the pressure on Cobblers' caretaker manager Dean Austin.In an even first half, both goalkeepers stood out, with Northampton's Richard O'Donnell plunging to his left to deny Viv Solomon-Otabor and then punching clear a Jimmy Ryan volley.Blackpool in turn were indebted to Joe Lumley, who saved a close-range Kevin van Veen header and denied Chris Long when through on goal.The Seasiders took the lead on the stroke of half-time through Armand Gnanduillet's instinctive side-footed finish when he was played in from the right.Northampton then wilted under Blackpool's second-half dominance, with Solomon-Otabor particularly effective on the left wing.Gnanduillet hit a post and David Buchanan cleared a Nathan Delfouneso effort off the line before Sean Longstaff doubled the lead after 62 minutes with a sweet strike from 25 yards.Curtis Tilt also hit a post from point-blank range, but Blackpool sealed the game 15 minutes from time when Ryan's free-kick deflected off the wall to leave O'Donnell stranded.
