- Albin Ekdal - 18' OG
- Tin Jedvaj - 90'+6'
Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 Hamburg SV
Bayer Leverkusen returned to winning ways on Roger Schmidt's return to the touchline with a 1-0 win over Hamburg. The team had lost their way during Schmidt's suspension, losing two and drawing one, but they bounced back thanks to an Albin Ekdal own goal in the 18th minute. It was still far from convincing from Leverkusen, yet the priority in getting three points and moving back to within touching distance of the Bundesliga top six was achieved, thanks also to their goalkeeper Bernd Leno. Tin Jedvaj was sent off in stoppage time to take a bit of gloss of Leverkusen's win.Schmidt had the luxury of recalling Javier Hernandez from suspension, and he was one of the oldest players in what will go down in history as the youngest-ever Leverkusen team fielded in a Bundesliga fixture.Hernandez almost put them in front with a header within 30 seconds, while Artjoms Rudnevs commenced his personal battle with Leno moments later, with the Leverkusen goalkeeper coming out on top.Hamburg goalkeeper Rene Adler did well to turn an Omer Toprak header away in the 10th minute, but he was beaten eight minutes later by his own team-mate Ekdal, who turned Julian Brandt's cross into his own goal.Hernandez almost made it two on the stroke of half-time, but his header struck the crossbar.Leno denied Rudnevs in a one-on-one situation, and he came out on top once again in the 70th minute as Hamburg stepped up the pressure. It certainly was not the Latvian forward's day as Leno denied him once again with 10 minutes remaining, and it was the last line of the Leverkusen defence who prevented Aaron Hunt from levelling deep in stoppage time as the hosts held on desperately. That involved trying to play the clock down, but Jedvaj took that too far and earned a second yellow card as he wasted time too blatantly for the referee's liking, six minutes into what became nearly nine minutes of time added on. ends
