Sydney FC and Melbourne City FC had to settle for a share of the spoils in their opening A-League game of the season as they played out a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

It was visitors Melbourne who opened the scoring in the 16th minute at the Allianz Stadium, with Wade Dekker pouncing on a Sydney error before converting at the near post in his first game for the club.

The home side, however, drew level on the stroke of half-time as Filip Holosko tapped in Alex Brosque's delivery deep into stoppage time.

Sydney looked the more likely to go on and win after the break, only for Thomas Sorensen to make a number of saves to secure Melbourne a point.
