France cruise past Italy to win European Under-19 final
France controlled Italy 4-0 on Sunday to win the European Under-19 Championship and bring home a trophy for Les Bleus this summer.
Though most France fans would rather have seen their senior team prevail in the Euro 2016 final, lost 1-0 to Portugal, the win in Germany provided significant hope for the future.
Jean-Kevin Augustin, Ludovic Blas, Lucas Tousart and Issa Diop scored the goals in a dominant performance at Hoffenheim's Rhein-Neckar-Arena.
PSG's Augustin opened the scoring in the sixth minute after spinning between two defenders and feinting a shot before rounding goalkeeper Alex Meret to put in his sixth goal in five games at the tournament.
Blas' header at the near post in the 19th minute doubled the lead, and France controlled the game until Tousart's 25-yard shot on 82 minutes made it 3-0.
Diop headed home in stoppage time as France began their celebrations.
