Leeds United 4-1 Port Vale

Samu Saiz fired a hat-trick on his debut as Leeds beat Port Vale 4-1 in the first round of the Carabao Cup.Attacking midfielder Saiz, signed for a reported £3million from Huesca in July, gave Leeds an early lead and after Michael Tonge's equaliser against his former club, the Spaniard rattled in two more in as many minutes in the second half.Fellow debutant Caleb Ekuban struck a late fourth to cap an impressive display from Thomas Christiansen's much-changed line-up. Christiansen handed debuts to defender Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Ekuban, plus midfielders Saiz and Mateus Klich, making nine changes in total.Leeds took a deserved 13th-minute lead when Stuart Dallas' cross came back off a post and Saiz smashed home the rebound.Saiz and Klich were prominent as Leeds bossed the opening half an hour, but with nothing else to show for their promising build-up the home side were made to pay in the 37th minute.Tonge stole in after Gavin Gunning's long throw-in had been flicked on in the penalty area and fired home the equaliser from six yards.Leeds continued to dominate possession in the second period but had to be patient before finding the decisive breakthrough in the 61st minute.Following more neat approach play, Ronaldo Vieira slid the ball through into the area for Saiz, who skipped round Port Vale's substitute goalkeeper Sam Hornby and deftly finished. Two minutes later Saiz completed his hat-trick, ramming home an emphatic finish after being set-up by Ekuban, who then steered in Leeds' fourth in the 83rd minute after Ezgjan Alioski's brilliant counter-attack.Vale defender Gunning was sent off in the closing stages after his cynical foul on Alioski earned him a second yellow card.ends
