Liverpool cruise past Racing Genk with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain brace

Liverpool rode an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain brace to a 4-1 win over Racing Genk on Wednesday to stay second in Champions League Group E.

Oxlade-Chamberlain made the most of his chance after a rare inclusion in Liverpool's starting XI, firing in a low-line drive from a Fabinho assist to put the visitors ahead in just the second minute.

Genk looked to have equalised later in the first half from a powerful Mbwana Samatta header over James Milner, but the goal was waved off after video review for offside in the buildup to the goal.

Liverpool doubled their lead shortly after half-time with Oxlade-Chamberlain adding his second goal of the evening from a cheeky first-time outside of the boot shot that curled up and over Genk goalkeeper Gaetan Coucke.

Liverpool had not won away from home in group play since a 7-0 win in Maribor two years ago but ended that sequence in emphatic fashion with a clinical display of firepower.

"I've definitely missed [the Champions League]," Oxlade-Chamberlain, who sat out almost the whole of last season with an injury, said. "It's nice to be back in the starting lineup and put in a performance to help the team."

The three points were put to rest in the 77th minute when Mohamed Salah set up Sadio Mane to deftly chip Coucke for Liverpool's third goal of the night and the Egyptian added his team's fourth with a tricky little move and finish before Genk scored a meaningless late goal.

Liverpool's win made it a full house for the four English clubs in Champions League action this week with Chelsea winning earlier and Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday.

Jurgen Klopp's Premier League leaders remained in second place in their group after Napoli beat FC Salzburg.
