Mason Mount strikes late as Chelsea edge America in U.S. preseason tour opener
A superb late strike from midfielder Mason Mount helped Chelsea to a 2-1 victory over America at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday in the first game of their preseason tour of the United States.
Thomas Tuchel's starting lineup was dominated by players who were not involved in last month's international fixtures, including Ben Chilwell, who played in his first match since suffering a knee injury last November. New signings Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly were not involved.
However, after a goalless opening period, Chelsea made a number of changes, including the introduction of Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner and Mount.

Werner opened the scoring on 55 minutes with a rebound after he saw his initial effort blocked, but a disastrous backpass from Reece James resulted in an own goal shortly after, levelling the scores.
Mount netted the winner seven minutes from time with a magnificent curling strike from the edge of the 18-yard box, ensuring a successful start to the club's tour of the U.S.
Chelsea play again on Wednesday when they face Charlotte FC in North Carolina. Thomas Tuchel's side will then face London rivals Arsenal in Orlando on July 23 before taking on Serie A side Udinese on July 29.
