Ludmila's early goal proved decisive as the host Chicago Red Stars edged San Diego Wave FC 1-0 at SeatGeek Stadium on Saturday in Bridgeview, Ill.

The match's lone goal came in the 12th minute when Hannah Anderson delivered a pinpoint cross that found Ludmila, who headed it home from close range for Chicago (9-2-10).

Chicago's defense held firm throughout, with goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher making two saves to keep a clean sheet. Mallory Swanson and Bea Franklin also contributed offensively with two shots each but were unable to extend their team's lead.

San Diego (4-7-10) had 28 shots but only two on target. Mya Jones hit the crossbar in the 29th minute in what was arguably the best chance to level the score. Delphine Cascarino and Melanie Barcenas, who had a team-high four shots, were active up front but couldn't break through Chicago's defense.

Shea Groom made a late appearance for Chicago, replacing goal scorer Ludmila during stoppage time.

Chicago shut out San Diego for the third consecutive time. The Red Stars are the only team San Diego has not scored against since July 2023.

Up next: Chicago will host the North Carolina Courage on Sept. 29. San Diego will host Portland Thorns FC on Saturday.
