Cambridge crushed Port Vale 5-0 on the final day of the League Two season.The hosts were rampant from the moment they took the lead 12 minutes before half-time as Joe Dunne marked his first game in permanent charge of the U's in style.Jake Carroll's dinked pass into the box was met by David Amoo, who swivelled well to power home, and they doubled their lead only two minutes later when a close-range scramble resulted in Harrison Dunk firing into the roof of the net.Port Vale almost reduced the deficit 10 minutes after the break as Luke Hannant, a former Cambridge academy player, flicked Michael Tonge's corner fractionally wide.Brad Halliday scored the pick of the goals after 68 minutes, striding forward and unleashing a stunning effort which flew across Sam Hornby and into the top corner.Substitute Barry Corr lashed home from a George Maris corner 16 minutes from the end, before Billy Waters' fine finish as he cut into the box sealed the result four minutes later.

Newport finished their home campaign with a flourish by beating Cambridge 2-1.Mickey Demetriou gave Newport a first-half lead before Frank Nouble volleyed home to take the Exiles to within three points of their record League Two points tally.George Maris made Newport sweat in the final 10 minutes, but his goal could not stop Cambridge from slipping into 13th.The hosts piled on the pressure from the start and finally got the breakthrough in the 26th minute.Ben Tozer's long throw was met by Mark O'Brien, who headed the ball down for defensive partner Demetriou to poke home from four yards out to make it 1-0.Cambridge brought Barry Corr on at half-time to add some attacking threat, but it was County who showed their killer instinct.Substitute Aaron Collins surged down the wing and crossed for Nouble, who volleyed the ball in at the back post for his 10th goal of the season after 59 minutes.Billy Waters teed up Maris to fire into the bottom corner with nine minutes remaining, but it was too little, too late.

Draw helps Morecambe move five points clear of relegation

Morecambe moved five points clear of the bottom two with a 0-0 draw against Cambridge at the Globe Arena.It was Morecambe's 18th draw of the season but it may have been a vital point in their hopes of securing their Football League status.In a game of few chances, Cambridge almost snatched the three points at the death when a header from Morecambe defender Steven Old was cleared off his own line by Alex Kenyon.Jake Carroll also had a great chance after a late, flowing move that ended with a shot that flew over the bar and Harrison Dunk found the side netting as the U's ended the game on top.Before then Morecambe had the best chance when veteran Kevin Ellison diverted an Aaron McGowan cross wide from close range when he looked certain to score.Morecambe started the brighter and Callum Lang was played through on goal by Adam Campbell in the opening stages but saw his right-foot shot well saved by Dimitar Mitov low to his right hand side.Lang looked the Shrimps' biggest threat throughout the half and fired an effort over from a tight angle before Cambridge came into the game.George Maris produced their best moment with a 20-yard shot that forced a save form Barry Roche.

A late goal from substitute Barry Corr snatched Cambridge a 4-3 win against Cheltenham in a sensational Sky Bet League Two clash.George Lloyd scored his first senior goal for the visitors inside three minutes before Greg Taylor equalised from Jevani Brown's corner.Mo Eisa's superb free-kick restored the Robins' advantage with the game still only 13 minutes old.In first-half stoppage-time Medy Elito blazed a Cambridge penalty way over the crossbar amid controversy, as referee Brett Huxtable awarded a spot-kick for a foul on Brown despite Billy Waters scoring as the ball fell to him.The U's did get their equaliser after 53 minutes when Brown fed George Maris, who drilled a fine effort across Scott Flinders for his fourth goal in five games.Brown then sent Flinders the wrong way from the spot on the hour after Jordan Cranston conceded his second penalty by fouling substitute David Amoo.Eisa looked to have earned Cheltenham a draw with his second goal 11 minutes from the end but Corr struck the winner moments later to settle a superb encounter.

Exeter complete stunning comeback victory over Cambridge

Exeter mounted an extraordinary late comeback to win 3-2 at Cambridge and keep their hopes of automatic promotion alive.The U's looked to have won the game when George Maris put them 2-1 up with an exquisite effort from outside the box on 67 minutes - his third goal in three games - but the Grecians struck twice in the final six minutes.Matt Jay pounced to equalise from close range after Greg Taylor had failed to clear and Jayden Stockley's shot was deflected into his path, before Jake Taylor struck the winner for Exeter on 87 minutes after Cambridge were again unable to clear the danger.Jabo Ibehre had opened the scoring for Cambridge three minutes before half-time when a patient move resulted in Brad Halliday drilling the ball across for Ibehre to score from close range.Stockley equalised just before the hour when Hiram Boateng was given freedom of the left wing to pick out Stockley, who headed home.

Carlisle pegged back by Cambridge

Carlisle extended their unbeaten run to seven games but it was a case of two points lost as a 1-1 draw with Cambridge did little for their play-off hopes.Richie Bennett gave the Cumbrians the lead, only for George Maris to strike straight back for the Us as the game came alive in the second half.Carlisle looked the more dangerous attacking team in the early stages, with Hallam Hope and Jamie Devitt both firing over the bar from half-chances.Next it was Ashley Nadesan's turn to go close with a glancing header, while Greg Taylor did just enough with his challenge to force Gary Liddle to skew his effort wide of the far post following a promising move down the right.Only a superb save low down to his right by David Forde enabled the Us to go into half-time on level terms. Danny Grainger's free-kick was turned goalwards by Bennett, only for the goalkeeper to get a hand to it at full stretch.Bennett put Carlisle ahead two minutes after the restart, supplying the final touch close in after Nadesan had turned Grainger's cross back across the face of goal.The lead did not last long because ex-Carlisle striker Jabo Ibehre's header into the six-yard box enabled Maris to nod home from close range for a 49th-minute equaliser.Mark Ellis powered a header narrowly over the bar and Forde went full length to save from Devitt as Carlisle made a late bid for all three points, but in the end the Cumbrians had to settle for a draw.

Paul Lewis leaves it late to earn Cambridge a point

Paul Lewis struck in the third minute of stoppage time to rescue a 1-1 draw for Cambridge at Wycombe as the hosts' promotion hopes suffered another blow.After losing their last two homes games, the Chairboys looked set to get back to winning ways thanks to Adebayo Akinfenwa's header, but they are now two points behind third-placed Notts County.Wycombe went ahead in the fourth of nine minutes of first-half injury time, as Akinfenwa flicked Brown's deep free-kick out of the reaches of David Forde.Cambridge defender George Taft was then left with his heart in his mouth, as his sliced attempted clearance from Luke O'Nien's cross came back off his own post.Forde then denied Akinfenwa a second goal with his feet after Nathan Tyson had skinned Greg Taylor down the left wing before the U's provided a dramatic late twist.Nathan McGinley couldn't deal with a long ball forward and the ball fell to Lewis, who gave Scott Brown no chance with a low effort that found the bottom corner.
