Late equaliser denies Wrexham come-from-behind win

Wrexham's automatic promotion hopes were dealt a blow on Saturday as Cambridge United scored a late equaliser to see Phil Parkinson's side drop points at home for only the second time this season.

Dan Nlundulu's 89th-minute penalty rescued a point for struggling Cambridge in a 2-2 draw. The spot-kick was awarded after Lewis Brunt fouled substitute Sulley Kaikai.

Wrexham, owned by Hollywood duo Rob Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, have been flying high in their first season in English football's third tier following back-to-back promotions.

The draw will be particularly tough for Wrexham as promotion rivals Wycombe Wanderers and Birmingham City both won.

Wrexham are third in the table on 41 points and only two points behind league leaders Wycombe but have played a game more than Wycombe and two more than Birmingham in second.

Cambridge took an unlikely lead in the 20th minute through Elias Kachunga, but Wrexham fought back and went in front themselves.

James McClean equalised on 27 minutes and substitute Steven Fletcher completed the impressive recovery on 65 minutes, moments after coming on. However, victory evaded them due to Nlundulu's late goal.
