        George Miller earns Bury a morale-boosting victory

        Already-relegated Bury gave their fans something to cheer about as they beat Portsmouth 1-0 in their last home game of the season.Pompey came into the game with a slim chance of sneaking into the play-offs, but their rivals went in front through George Miller's 68th-minute strike.And the Shakers held on to secure just their eighth league win of a miserable season - and their first in 11 games.Bury had gone closest early on as Harry Bunn and Neil Danns fired wide, while Jay O'Shea volleyed over.Pompey's Ollie Hawkins then somehow headed wide from a Jamal Lowe cross before the same player fired wide just before half-time.O'Shea and Hawkins were then off-target before Cameron Burgess headed over from a Pompey corner.A Bury corner resulted in Miller's close-range shot being headed off the line by Brett Pitman.But moments later goalkeeper Luke McGee failed to clear a back-pass before being tackled by Miller, with the loose ball rolling over the goal-line for the Middlesbrough loanee's seventh goal of the season.Home keeper Joe Murphy then denied Matt Kennedy and Conor Chaplin to give rock-bottom Bury a rare victory.

          Shrewsbury's top-two hopes fade after draw with Bury

          Shrewsbury's automatic promotion hopes suffered another setback after they had to settle for a point from a 1-1 draw against relegated Bury.Abo Eisa marked his first Football League start by firing Shrewsbury into an early lead before Jay O'Shea pulled Bury level midway through the second half. Shrews, guaranteed third place, are now seven points behind Blackburn in second with just three games remaining.Bury were first to threaten when George Miller's rising shot was saved by goalkeeper Dean Henderson.Shrewsbury went ahead in the 13th minute when Eisa, signed from Wealdstone in January, collected a pass from Max Lowe and drove home a low shot from just outside the penalty area following a strong run.Bryn Morris then fired in a 20-yard drive which was pushed away by Bury goalkeeper Joe Murphy.Bury equalised in he 66th minute when O'Shea was picked out by a quickly-taken free-kick and burst into the box before drilling a low shot past Henderson.Sub Nathan Thomas volleyed wide for Shrewsbury from 20 yards in the closing stages as the points were shared.

            Relegated Bury ended their run of defeats in a brilliantly unpredictable 3-3 draw at Doncaster.Ryan Lowe's side came from 2-0 down to lead before Doncaster equalised, which ultimately gave the Shakers their first point since March 10.Few would have predicted such a scoreline as Doncaster dominated the opening half hour against a deflated Bury sideAndy Butler headed the hosts in front from a James Coppinger cross after just two minutes and John Marquis clipped past the on-rushing Joe Murphy to double the lead from a sweeping one-touch passing move in the 35th minute.Just as Rovers looked to have turned their comfort in play to that on the scoreline, Niall Mason headed into his own goal from Callum Styles' testing free kick in the 38th minute.Bury were buoyed at the start of the second half and Jay O'Shea equalised from the penalty spot in the 51st minute after Matty Blair tripped Phil Edwards.Unbelievably, the visitors went ahead nine minutes later when George Miller slotted home from close range after Zeli Ismail broke clear.Doncaster found parity in the 65th minute when Boyle headed in a Coppinger corner.

              Bury relegated following defeat to Northampton

              Bury's three-year stay in Sky Bet League One is over after Ryan Lowe's side were beaten 3-2 by Northampton.The Shakers were relegated after Ash Taylor's second goal of the game, in the 87th minute, handed the Cobblers a win which keeps their survival hopes alive. Taylor's winner came as he tapped home Dan Powell's cross.An end-to-end first half began with Northampton striking first after six minutes when skipper Taylor glanced home Matt Grimes' corner from close range.Bury levelled five minutes later when Peter Clarke lashed home from five yards after goalkeeper Richard O'Donnell punched Zeli Ismail's corner straight into the skipper's path.The visitors regained the lead just past the half-hour mark. Substitute Sam Hoskins had only been on the field for two minutes when he met Grimes' through-ball and beat Joe Murphy from 15 yards.Northampton's John-Joe O'Toole nodded against the foot of a post shortly before the interval.Bury made it 2-2 with 16 minutes left when Danny Mayor brushed off a couple of weak challenges before smashing home from 12 yards, but Taylor had the final say.

                Rochdale see off relegation rivals Bury to boost survival hopes

                Rochdale moved to within a point of safety with a 2-0 win at League One relegation rivals Bury.Ryan Delaney headed in a 30th-minute opener before Ian Henderson doubled Dale's lead after 43 minutes.Neil Danns missed a 62nd-minute penalty as rock-bottom Bury slumped to their fifth straight defeat, leaving them 12 points adrift with six games left.Henderson fired wide before Dale took a deserved lead as Irish defender Delaney headed home from Brad Inman's corner.Bury replied with Danny Mayor firing straight at Josh Lillis, but Dale went straight up the other end and Calvin Andrew helped the ball on for Henderson to volley inside the far post from a tight angle.The striker almost scored again as his header was tipped over by Connor Ripley just after half-time.Bury were presented with a way back into the match when Zeli Ismail's cut-back struck Jim McNulty's arm in the area, but Danns dragged the spot-kick almost a yard wide.Lillis then made a fine save to deny Harry Bunn as Dale made it back-to-back wins after beating promotion-chasing Shrewsbury on Friday.

                  Lines holds nerves to complete Rovers comeback as Bury pay penalty

                  Chris Lines fired an 85th-minute winner from the penalty spot as Bristol Rovers came from behind to beat Bury 2-1 in an entertaining League One clash.Bury had the best chance of the first half as a Neil Danns volley at the far post from Zeli Ismail's corner was palmed away by Sam Slocombe.But the visitors had a major let-off just before the break when Nathan Cameron's over-hit back-pass beat goalkeeper Connor Ripley and the ball bobbled wide.Danns broke the deadlock in the 54th minute with a curling right-footed shot from 12 yards after the ball had broken to him in a crowded area.But Rovers were level 11 minutes later when Kyle Bennett's pass set up substitute Dom Telford to shoot low past Ripley from inside the area just two minutes after replacing Tom Nichols.And Lines completed the comeback late on as he sent Ripley the wrong way with his low penalty after Ryan Cooney was adjudged to have brought down Kyle Bennett.

                    Latics see off Shakers to strengthen promotion bid

                    Wigan won 2-0 at rock-bottom Bury to move back into Sky Bet League One's automatic promotion places.Nick Powell scored his 13th goal of the season on 26 minutes before Che Dunkley doubled the Latics' lead in the 50th minute.And Wigan comfortably saw out their third straight victory, leaving Bury 10 points from safety with eight games left.The hosts actually had the better of the opening stages as Nathan Cameron glanced Jay O'Shea's corner wide.Stephen Dawson then sidefooted over before O'Shea blazed over from a 20-yard free-kick.But Latics took the lead against the run of play as Ryan Colclough found Michael Jacobs in the inside-left channel and his cut-back was swept in by Powell.Jacobs then had an effort cleared off the line while Neil Danns forced a fine save from Wigan keeper Christian Walton.Max Power and Jay Fulton went close for the Latics and, just after half-time, Dunkley rose highest at the back post to head home from Power's corner.O'Shea then tested Walton before Ryan Cooney and Danny Mayor fired over as Bury suffered their third straight defeat.

                      Bury keep their faint survival hopes alive

                      Bury climbed back off the bottom of League One after claiming a 2-1 home win over Gillingham.Neil Danns claimed a 12th-minute opener before Harry Bunn doubled Bury's lead in the 25th minute.Connor Ogilvie pulled one back for mid-table Gillingham after 69 minutes but the Shakers hung on to move within eight points of safety.Bury impressed in the first half, with Bunn hitting a long-range effort straight at Tomas Holy before Zeli Ismail fired wide.Ismail then found Danns on the edge of the box and his low shot crept under Holy.The hosts remained on top, with Bunn dragging a shot wide before sweeping in Ismail's cut-back.Lee Martin replied by firing wide, but Bury forward George Miller forced a save from Holy.Holy denied Miller again just after the break, with Bunn's follow-up blocked on the line.And the Gills rallied with substitute Scott Wagstaff blazing over before crossing for left-back Ogilvie to head home.Wagstaff then curled a shot wide in stoppage time and goalkeeper Holy had a shot saved after going up for a corner, but the Gills could not avoid just their second defeat in 14 league games.
