Stair steps up with 15, lifting Mercer past Hiwassee 90-53
MACON, Ga. -- Ethan Stair scored 15 points with three steals and six assists and all 12 Mercer players scored as the Bears shot 58 percent from the field and defeated Hiwassee College 90-53 on Sunday.
Mercer (5-2) made 29 of 50 field goals with a dozen 3-pointers, including four by Cory Kilby who finished with 14 points. Jordan Strawberry and Desmond Ringer added 11 points each and Marcus Cohen 10. Leading scorer Ri'an Holland did not appear in the lineup.
Hiwassee, of the National Christian College Athletic Association, was led by 14 points from Ben Snider and 12 from Jay Cade but were outrebounded 41-25 and made just 19 of 57 shots or 33 percent. Mercer controlled the defensive glass with 33 boards.
Mercer was coming off a 79-70 loss to Colorado of the Pac-12 in the championship of the Paradise Jam and is ranked No. 16 in the mid-major polls.
