Gosselin, Amius lift Western Carolina over VMI 65-58
CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- Marc Gosselin scored 16 points, Mike Amius had 13 with 12 rebounds and Western Carolina turned back VMI 65-58 on Monday night.
Ashley Williams also had 13 points for the Catamounts (8-10, 4-2 Southern Conference) and Deriece Parks had 11.
Bubba Parham had 20 points and Keither Smith, who was 4 for 4 from 3-point range, had 18 for the Keydets (5-11, 0-5), who have lost six straight.
A 9-0 surge late in the first half, with Desmond Johnson hitting the go-ahead jumper, helped Western Carolina build a 31-26 lead at the half.
The Keydets kept the pressure on in the second half but each time they get within a possession or two, the Catamounts would get a key bucket. Smith's 3-pointer with 1:36 to play pulled VMI within 62-58 but after that the Keydets had two turnovers and two missed shots.
