Timmer scores career-high, Drake beats Chicago State 79-67

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Reed Timmer buried seven 3-pointers and all seven of his free throws for a career-high 32 points and Drake turned back Chicago State 79-67 on Sunday.

Nick McGlynn just missed his third straight double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds for the Bulldogs (4-1).

Fred Sims Jr. hit five 3s and scored 25 to lead the Cougars (2-7), while Glen Burns had 15 points with five assists and Deionte Simmons tallied 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Simmons' layup with 8:47 remaining in the game gave Chicago State, which was playing its fourth game in six days, a 58-53 lead. But Timmer hit from long range and Graham Woodward buried back-to-back 3s to give Drake a 62-58 lead. The Cougars pulled within 62-61 on a pair of Anthony Harris free throws with 5:33 left, but Timmer hit a 3 to spark a 9-0 run and Drake stayed ahead from there.

Drake came in averaging 45.5 percent from 3-point range -- eighth best in the nation -- but made just 11 of 29 (38 percent) against the Cougars.
