Richmond tops Davidson, wins 4th straight in the series

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Grant Golden scored 24 points on 11-of-15 shooting, Nick Sherod had 10 points, 14 boards and four assists, and Richmond beat Davidson 66-63 on Sunday.

Richmond won its fourth straight in the series behind Golden's seventh 20-plus game and Sherod's first career double-double. Golden, a freshman, had a season-high 26 points in Richmond's third game of the season.

De'Monte Buckingham gave Richmond a 65-58 lead on a 3-pointer from the wing with 1:06 left and Jacob Gilyard stole it on the inbounds pass. Gilyard missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 29.6 to go and Buckingham did the same at 21.9 after a Davidson turnover.

Will Magarity pulled Davidson within three points with 3.3 seconds to go on a putback, but Richmond, which was 4 of 11 from the line, was able to run out the clock.

Gilyard added 14 points with three 3-pointers for Richmond (8-13, 6-3 Atlantic 10).

Jon Axel Gudmundsson had 21 points, six rebounds and four assists for Davidson (10-9, 5-3). Peyton Aldridge added 18 points and Grady scored 10 of his 14 points in the first half.

Davison entered leading Division I with a 1.90 assist-to-turnover ratio but turned it over 17 times against Richmond.
