Golden leads Richmond to 78-68 win over George Washington
RICHMOND, Va. -- Grant Golden scored 24 points to lead Richmond in a 78-68 win over George Washington on Saturday, snapping a three-game skid.
Golden was 10 of 14 from the field for the Spiders (4-13, 2/3 Atlantic 10) and led all five starters in double-figure scoring. Jacob Gilyard added 19 points and five assists, De'Monte Buckingham had 14 points and eight rebounds, Khwan Fore had 11 points and four rebounds and Nick Sherod had 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Spiders trailed 25-17 late in the first half when Golden led a 17-7 surge, scoring 11 points himself, to thrust his team into a 34-32 lead at the break.
Gilyard sank a 3-pointer and a layup early in the second half and Golden added a 3-point play to make it 53-47 with 12:12 to go and the Spiders led the rest of the way.
Patrick Steeves scored 23 points with six rebounds and four assists for the Colonials (8-10, 1-4) who have lost the last four.
