UT Rio Grande Valley beats Our Lady of the Lake 96-75
EDINBURG, Texas -- Xavier McDaniel Jr. scored 17 points to lead seven UT Rio Grande Valley players in double-digit scoring and the Vaqueros beat NAIA Our Lady of the Lake 96-75 on Tuesday night.
Terry Winn scored 14 points with 10 rebounds for Rio Grande Valley (8-8), which outrebounded the Saints 51-34 and never trailed.
Lesley Varner Jr. and Nick Dixon scored 14 points apiece, with Dixon adding seven assists. Lew Stallworth had two points, seven rebounds and 10 of the Vaqueros' 26 assists on 33 field goals. Moe McDonald had 12 points and Dan Kimasa and Mike Hoffman scored 10 apiece for UTRGV.
Winn scored four points in the Vaqueros' opening 11-2 run and UT Rio Grande Valley led 49-31 at halftime. Three-pointers by McDaniel and Dixon sparked a 14-4 run capped by Varner's dunk and the Vaqueros led by 65-42 with 14:41 to play and cruised from there.
Courtney Julien scored 19 points, Simon Shafack Jr. added 11 and Yephnick Adelphonse 10 for the Saints (9-5).
