Iyiola, Rivera lead Stetson past Webber 98-89
DELAND, Fla. -- Abayomi Iyiola had his first career double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds, Angel Rivera tied the school record with 15 assists and Stetson held off Webber 98-89 in the Hatters' season-opener on Friday.
Stetson trailed 49-47 at the half but Larry Dennis and Iyiola opened the second half scoring and the Hatters never trailed, although the NAIA Warriors (2-1) refused to go away. A 6-0 burst pulled Webber with 70-68 with 7:57 to play. The Hatters answered with six, including a 3-pointer from Raine McKeython, who also had a 3 on the next possession. But it wasn't until Stetson made 6 of 8 free throws in the last 1:21 when the game was secured.
Luke Doyle added 15 points with reserves McKeython, who hit 3 of 4 behind the arc, adding 13 and Kenny Aninye 12 for the Hatters, who made 11 of 25 3s and shot 50 percent.
Jonathan Childs had 22 points and Joseph Serrano 20 for Webber.
