Massey's buzzer-beater lifts FAU past Rice 63-62
HOUSTON -- Justin Massey scored 18 points and nailed the game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer and Florida Atlantic beat Rice 63-62 on Saturday.
Connor Cashaw hit a jumper with three seconds left for a 62-60 Rice lead, and after Florida Atlantic (10-11, 4-5 Conference USA) called timeout, Payton Hulsey dished to Massey for the shot. Massey missed all seven of his 3-point attempts in Thursday's loss to North Texas.
Ronald Delph led Florida Atlantic with 20 points. Delph's jumper with 63 seconds to go knotted the game at 60 following a Cashaw jumper nine seconds prior.
Tim Harrison's jumper with 6:45 left gave Rice (5-17, 2-7) a 52-47 lead as Rice outscored FAU 30-17 in the second half up to that point. Delph made back-to-back jumpers and Gerdarius Troutman's 3 with 4:12 left tied at 54. Troutman scored 10 points and William Pfister grabbed 11 rebounds.
Cashaw led Rice with 16 points, Ako Adams scored 11 and Malik Osborne scored 10 and grabbed eight rebounds.
