UT San Antonio rolls to 71-58 win over UTEP in C-USA Tourney
FRISCO, Texas -- Deon Lyle scored 18 points and Byron Frohnen added 14 points with a career-best 14 rebounds and UT San Antonio rolled to a 71-58 win over UTEP on Wednesday night in the first round of the Conference USA Tournament.
No. 5 seed UTSA (19-13) now heads to the quarterfinals to meet fourth-seeded Marshall on Thursday night.
Giovanni De Nicolao -- who finished with nine points, five rebounds and five assists -- sank a jumper and a 3-pointer as part of an 11-7 surge midway through the first half that gave the Roadrunners a 27-18 advantage with 8:05 to go and they led 39-29 at halftime.
Lyle scored nine points in the first six minutes of the second half to help push it to 50-38 and UTSA led by double figures the rest of the way.
Evan Gilyard led the No. 12 seed Miners (11-20) with 29 points and three assists. Trey Wade added 10 points and 10 rebounds.
