Jackson with 17 points, Toledo beats NAIA Wilberforce 99-58
TOLEDO, Ohio -- Willie Jackson scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Toledo beat Wilberforce University of the NAIA 99-58 on Saturday night.
Jackson was 6 of 8 from the field and sank all five of his free throws for the Rockets (2-0). Jaelan Sanford and Chris Darrington each had 16 points, Spencer Littleton had 12 and Nate Navigato 10.
Navigato drained three 3-pointers within the first three minutes and Sanford made a layup to launch the Rockets to a 13-2 start. A Darrington 3 and a dunk by Jackson late in the half helped push the lead to 52-29 at the break.
Wilberforce opened the second half with hot shooting by Tony Collins who drained two quick 3-pointers and Deion Gatson who scored four points to help close the gap, 64-43, with 13:05 to play. But Littleton replied for Toledo with three 3-pointers and Sanford sank two more to extend the lead to 81-46 midway and the Rockets cruised from there.
Collins scored 12 points with four rebounds and two assists for the Bulldogs.
