EDINBURG, Texas -- Tyson Smith had 19 points to lead five Texas Rio Grande Valley players in double figures as the Vaqueros narrowly defeated Grambling State 74-73 in the CIT first round on Wednesday night. Lesley Varner II and Javon Levi added 14 points apiece for the Vaqueros. Terry Winn III and Jordan Jackson chipped in 10 points each.

Winn made two free throws with 10 seconds left.

Dallas Polk-Hilliard had 22 points for the Tigers (17-17). Prince Moss added 16 points. Ivy Smith Jr. had 11 points.
