BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- — Dontaie Allen's 30 points led Western Kentucky past Florida International 105-91 on Thursday night.
Allen shot 9 for 11 (5 for 7 from 3-point range) and 7 of 7 from the free throw line for the Hilltoppers (14-6, 3-3 Conference USA). Don McHenry scored 17 points while going 7 of 10 from the field, and added six assists and four steals. Brandon Newman shot 6 for 9, including 3 for 5 from beyond the arc to finish with 15 points, while adding eight rebounds and four steals.
The Panthers (7-13, 2-3) were led in scoring by Petar Krivokapic, who finished with 17 points and four assists. Arturo Dean added 15 points, five assists and five steals for Florida International. George Pridgett also put up 15 points and two steals.
Western Kentucky took the lead with 14:24 left in the first half and did not relinquish it. The score was 49-46 at halftime, with Allen racking up 14 points. Western Kentucky extended its lead to 87-63 during the second half, fueled by a 12-0 scoring run. Allen scored a team-high 16 points in the second half as his team closed out the win.
Western Kentucky plays Thursday against Sam Houston at home, and Florida International visits Middle Tennessee on Saturday.
