UTEP defeats Florida International 83-76
EL PASO, Texas -- — Tae Hardy scored 26 points as UTEP beat Florida International 83-76 on Thursday night.
Hardy also contributed five assists for the Miners (16-15, 7-9 Conference USA). Zid Powell scored 17 points and added six rebounds and five assists. Otis Frazier III shot 4 of 5 from the field and 2 for 5 from the line to finish with 11 points, while adding seven rebounds and five assists.
Jayden Brewer led the way for the Panthers (10-20, 5-10) with 23 points. Javaunte Hawkins added 15 points and two steals for Florida International. Arturo Dean also recorded 13 points, four assists and three steals.
UTEP took the lead with 19:13 remaining in the first half and did not relinquish it. Hardy led his team in scoring with 18 points in the first half to help put them ahead 40-26 at the break. Powell's 17-point second half helped UTEP finish off the seven-point victory.
