BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- — A.J. Staton-McCray scored 29 points as Samford beat Chattanooga 89-74 on Wednesday night in a Southern Conference opener.

Staton-McCray also had five rebounds for the Bulldogs (12-2, 1-0). Achor Achor scored 20 points while going 7 of 8 and 5 of 6 from the free-throw line. Chandler Leopard had 12 points and shot 4 for 5 from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs picked up their 12th straight victory.

The Mocs (8-6, 0-1) were led by Trey Bonham, who recorded 21 points and six rebounds. Honor Huff added 18 points for Chattanooga. In addition, Sam Alexis had 10 points and six rebounds.
