Soriano puts up 21, St. John's beats Villanova 70-50

NEW YORK -- — Joel Soriano's 21 points helped St. John's defeat Villanova 70-50 on Wednesday night.

Soriano also added nine rebounds for the Red Storm (13-7, 5-4 Big East Conference). Jordan Dingle scored 12 points, going 6 of 13 (0 for 5 from 3-point range). Daniss Jenkins had nine points and was 3 of 9 shooting (1 for 5 from 3-point range).

Eric Dixon led the Wildcats (11-8, 4-4) in scoring, finishing with 16 points and eight rebounds. Villanova also got 12 points from TJ Bamba. In addition, Hakim Hart had five points.

St. John's took the lead with 18:10 remaining in the first half and never looked back. The score was 32-22 at halftime, with Glenn Taylor Jr. racking up six points. St. John's pulled away with an 11-0 run in the second half to extend a six-point lead to 17 points. They outscored Villanova by 10 points in the final half, as Soriano led the way with a team-high 15 second-half points.
