Alabama State scores last six points of game, earns 54-51 victory over Mississippi Valley State

ITTA BENA, Miss. -- — TJ Madlock scored 13 points and Alabama State scored the last six points of the game to beat Mississippi Valley State 54-51 on Saturday night in a Southwestern Athletic Conference opener.

Arecko Gipson hit a 3-pointer for Mississippi Valley State for a 51-48 lead with 30 seconds left. Alabama State's Eric Coleman then split a pair of free throws, Madlock converted a three-point play and Amarr Knox finished the game with a dunk.

Madlock shot 3 of 11 from the field and 6 for 11 from the line for the Hornets (6-8, 1-0). Isaiah Range scored eight points and added seven rebounds. Ubong Okon had six points and finished 3 of 4 from the floor.

Donovan Sanders led the way for the Delta Devils (0-14, 0-1) with 11 points. Rayquan Brown added 10 points, 11 rebounds and two steals for Mississippi Valley State. In addition, Gipson had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
