CARBONDALE, Ill. -- — Xavier Johnson scored 25 of his 27 points in the second half to help Southern Illinois defeat Valparaiso 75-69 on Wednesday night.

Johnson had five assists for the Salukis (13-7, 5-4 Missouri Valley Conference). Trent Brown scored 14 points while going 5 of 14 from the floor, including 1 for 8 from 3-point range, and 3 for 4 from the line. Troy D'Amico shot 4 for 7 from beyond the arc to finish with 13 points.

The Beacons (6-14, 2-7) were led by Cooper Schwieger, who posted 20 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Isaiah Stafford added 16 points for Valparaiso. Jahari Williamson also had 11 points.

Brown scored nine points in the first half and Southern Illinois went into halftime trailing 34-29.
