DAYTON, Ohio -- — Zed Key scored 14 points to help Dayton defeat Saint Francis (Pa.) 87-57 on Monday night in a season opener.
Key added six rebounds and three blocks for the Flyers. Enoch Cheeks scored 13 points and added 10 rebounds. Javon Bennett shot 5 for 12, including 3 for 10 from beyond the arc to finish with 13 points.
The Red Flash were led in scoring by Jeremy Clayville, who finished with 14 points. Saint Francis also got 10 points, seven rebounds and two blocks from Bobby Rosenberger III.
Dayton took the lead with 19:48 remaining in the first half and did not give it up. The score was 40-28 at halftime, with Cheeks racking up nine points. Dayton extended its lead to 50-30 during the second half, fueled by a 10-0 scoring run. Malachi Smith scored a team-high nine points in the second half.
