Niagara fends off Saint Peter's with 73-70 win

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. -- Matt Scott scored 23 points, Kahlil Dukes added 21 and the two were the difference down the stretch on Sunday as Niagara beat Saint Peter's 73-70.

Scott's jumper with 1:36 left broke a 70-all tie and Dukes made 1 of 2 free throws with nine seconds to go. Davauhnte Turner missed a 3-point attempt to tie at the buzzer. Scott scored six of Niagara's last seven points.

Niagara (11-8, 4-2 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) led 43-36 with 13:06 remaining before the Peacocks went on a 15-8 run with Turner scoring the last 10 of the run with a pair of layups, a 3-point play and a 3-pointer to knot the score at 51.

The Purple Eagles pushed the lead back to seven with a 15-8 run with Scott making a pair of 3s and Marving Prochet adding a jumper and a 3. Saint Peter's (8-9, 2-4) made its last push with an 11-4 run, and tied it at 70 on Nick Griffin's 3 with 2:09 left but didn't score again.

Turner finished with 22 points and Sam Idowu and Nnamdi Enechionyia each scored 12 for the Peacocks.
