Pitino advocates for later start, 'May Madness'

Iona coach Rick Pitino tweeted Saturday that college basketball should create "May Madness" and move the Nov. 25 start to accommodate the multitude of delays and challenges numerous teams have faced amid COVID-19.

Hofstra (CAA) & Iona (MAAC) announced a 3-game deal Mon. for men's hoops games the next 3 seasons, starting this 12/23, with home court for games 1 & 3 to be decided by a best-of-three "Rock Paper Scissors" series this Wed. between their mascots. Hofstra's "Willie Pride" & Iona's "Killian" are to compete live in a public online event at 5p E, joined by Pride acting head coach Mike Farrelly & Gaels first-year head coach Rick Pitino. The two NY schools last met in 2011 & are 20-20 head-to-head.

MAAC first to announce 2020-21 schedule model

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced its schedule model for the 2020-21 college basketball season on Thursday, becoming the first league to make its plans public following the NCAA establishing a Nov. 25 start date.

Ross lifts Iona past Rider on late shot

Isaiah Ross hit a 3-pointer with 11 seconds left to lift Iona to a 70-69 win over Rider on Friday night. Stevie Jordan turned the ball over on the subsequent possession for the Broncs, as a steal by Isaiah Washington wrapped up the victory for the Gaels.
