Evans scores 19, VCU beats Iona 88-59

RICHMOND, Va. -- Marcus Evans scored 19 points with three 3-pointers and six rebounds and VCU scored 27 points off of 23 forced turnovers in beating Iona 88-59 on Saturday night.

Marcus Santos-Silva scored 12 points with nine boards for the Rams (6-2), who hit 11 of 30 from distance (37 percent) and held the Gaels to 37 percent shooting. Mike'L Simms and Corey Douglas added 11 points apiece, with Simms hitting three 3s.

Issac Vann's dunk off a turnover put VCU up by 26 points, and the Rams twice led by 34, the last on Douglas' one-handed slam with 2:49 left.

Douglas' opening 3 sparked a 12-0 run and VCU led 18-8 on Simms' 3 after the Rams forced eight Iona turnovers. Malik Crowfield's 3 capped another 12-0 run for a 30-11 lead and the Rams led 46-27 at halftime.

E.J. Crawford and Rickey McGill scored 16 points apiece for Iona (2-5).
