Wagner sinks foul shots and Hartford in 77-68 win
NEW YORK -- Romone Saunders scored 18 points with 10 rebounds and Wagner beat Hartford 77-68 on Saturday for its third win in its last four games.
Chase Freeman scored 17 points and he and Saunders combined to shoot 21 of 24 from the foul line. Elijah Davis scored 16, making all six of his foul shots, and AJ Sumbry scored 10 and made all four of his foul shots. The Seahawks (5-5) were 32 of 36 from the line. The effort from the foul line was necessary as Wagner made just 19 of 48 (39.6 percent) from the field, including 7 of 25 from 3-point range.
Wagner led 32-19 at the halftime and maintained a double-digit lead for most of the second half until an 8-2 Hawks run reduced their deficit to 64-59 with three minutes remaining. Wagner countered with 13-of-14 shooting from the foul line to fend off Hartford.
Jason Dunne led Hartford (5-8) with 20 points, J.R. Lynch scored 14 and Travis Weatherington scored 12. The Hawks saw their two-game win streak come to an end.
