Hamlet. Reese help North Texas hang on for best C-USA start

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Javion Hamlet scored 21 points and had four assists without a turnover as North Texas held off Middle Tennessee 75-70 on Thursday night, winning in Murfreesboro for the first time in 11 years.

James Reese added 13 points for North Texas (15-9, 9-2 Conference USA), scoring all in the second half. His clutch layin after breaking the Middle Tennessee press with 30 seconds left blunted the Blue Raiders comeback and lifted North Texas to its best conference start in program history.

Zachary Simmons and Umoja Gibson each added 10 points.

Antonio Green scored 18 points to lead the Blue Raiders (6-18, 2-9). Green buried four straight 3-pointers to spark a 13-0 rally in the waning minutes. Reggie Scurry added 16 points with eight rebounds. Eli Lawrence had 10 points and eight rebounds.

North Texas faces UAB on the road on Saturday. Middle Tennessee faces Rice at home on Saturday.
