SAN JOSE, California (Ticker) -- The Colorado Avalanche aim for
their fifth win in six games tonight when they open a three-game
road trip against the San Jose Sharks.
The improved play of goaltender Patrick Roy certainly has helped Colorado. Since a 7-0 thrashing by the Phoenix Coyotes on November 26, Roy has won three straight, with the Avalanche outscoring their opponents, 12-5. Milan Hejduk leads Colorado with 17 goals and 27 points and rookie Alex Tanguay has a three-game points streak. San Jose fell to 2-4-2 in its last eight with Monday's 3-3 tie against Tampa Bay to open a four-game homestand. Owen Nolan scored twice, extending his goals streak to five games, and set up Vincent Damphousse's tying goal in the second period. Damphousse has a three-game points streak with two goals and two assists while Ron Sutter also has a three-game run with two goals and one assist. Nolan is tied with Pittsburgh's Jaromir Jagr with a league-high 20 goals and is one point behind with 40 for the second-place Sharks, who trail the Coyotes by three points in the Pacific Division. The Avalanche went 3-1 against the Sharks last season, splitting two games at the San Jose Arena.
