No. 16 Marquette women get first win, 83-63

MILWAUKEE -- Allazia Blockton scored 19 points and Erika Davenport added 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead No. 16 Marquette to an 83-63 victory over Loyola-Maryland on Sunday.

Danielle King had 13 points and seven assists, Isabelle Spingola 13 points and Lauren Van Kleunen 12 points and seven rebounds for the Golden Eagles in their home opener after a season-opening one-point loss to New Mexico.

Sophomore Stephanie Karcz scored a career-best 27 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Greyhounds (1-3). Alexis Gray added 13 points. Loyola committed 18 turnovers leading to 29 points.

The Golden Eagles (1-1) opened the game on a 14-5 run. A 12-3 run second-quarter run led to a 44-32 halftime lead before Brockton scored seven points in a 10-0 spurt to open the third quarter with the Eagles leading by as many as 24 in the period.

The Greyhounds made a brief charge when Karcz scored five points in a 7-0 run to open the fourth quarter, but Blockton replied with four points and King two baskets to go back up by 21.
