Alarie's 25 leads No. 25 Princeton women past Penn 75-55

PHILADELPHIA -- Two-time Ivy League Player of the Year Bella Alarie scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, Taylor Baur also had a double-double and Princeton celebrated its return to the Top 25 with a 75-55 win over Penn on Saturday.

The No. 25 Tigers broke away in the third quarter, outscoring the Quakers 21-12 as Alarie scored nine points, five in a 10-0 run for a 45-21 lead. Bauer had six points in the quarter, including the last four of a 6-0 spurt that made it 51-34.

The Ivy League opener was historic in that it featured two teams who were a combined 22-2. The Tigers (13-1), last ranked for 11 weeks in 2015 when they finished the regular season 30-0, ran their winning streak to nine games. Penn (10-2), off to its best start in school history, had its six-game winning streak snapped.

Baur finished with 15 points and 13 rebounds and Abby Meyers added 14 points.

Penn got within 10 in the closing minute of the third quarter when Kayla Padilla hit a 3-pointer but Meyers scored 10 in the fourth quarter and the Tigers pulled away.

Padilla led the Quakers with 27 points on 10-of-14 shooting, including 4 of 7 behind the 3-point line. Phoebe Sterba added 11 points and Tori Crawford 13 with eight rebounds, although Penn was outrebounded 44-25.

Princeton does not play again until Jan. 31, taking three weeks off for exams.
