Memphis' Dillon Brooks to have surgery for ruptured toe ligament

Memphis Grizzlies swingman Dillon Brooks will have surgery this week to repair a ruptured ligament in his right big toe, the team announced Wednesday.

Brooks is expected to miss the rest of the season, according to reports in The Athletic and the Commercial Appeal. He suffered the injury in a game against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday.

Brooks, 22, had just returned to the Grizzlies' rotation after missing 21 games earlier in the season because of a sprained MCL.

He is averaging 7.5 points since his return, but with the trades of reserve wings MarShon Brooks and Wayne Selden, he had scored in double figures in three of his past five games.

Brooks tweeted that he's thankful for the support he's received and vowing that this won't be a long-term setback.

Last year as a rookie, Brooks averaged 11 points and 39 minutes, playing all 82 games.
