Releasing Tyrod Taylor 'not in our plans,' Bills coach says

Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott said Wednesday at the scouting combine in Indianapolis that releasing quarterback Tyrod Taylor is not currently in the team's plans.

"Tyrod is a good player," McDermott said. "At this point in the process, I've learned being around this league around 20 years, it's way too early to take anything off the table, other than cutting him at this point, which is not in our plans.

"He's a good football player that has taken a team and been instrumental in getting us to the playoffs."

Taylor is under contract through next season at a salary-cap number of $18.08 million. He is due a $6 million roster bonus March 16, two days after the NFL's trading and free-agent signing period opens.

"I'm not really worried about the bonus," general manager Brandon Beane said Wednesday. "I see him on our roster right now, and unless something changes, he'll be here until that part."

In his third season as Buffalo's starting quarterback, Taylor finished 14th in Total QBR (53.0), 16th in passer rating (89.2), 15th in completion percentage (62.6), 23rd in yards per pass attempt (6.66) and 25th in passing touchdowns (14). Taylor's Total QBR, passer rating, yards per attempt and passing touchdowns have all declined in each of his three seasons since joining the Bills in 2015.
