Dallas Davis was the key to Jaguars' victory

QB Dallas Davis and the defense were the driving forces behind South Alabama's win against Louisiana Monroe.


MOBILE, Ala. -- Dallas Davis passed for 317 yards and a career-high three touchdowns, Xavier Johnson became South Alabama's career rushing leader and the Jaguars beat Louisiana Monroe 33-23 Saturday night.

Johnson, who needed 13 yards rushing to move past Kendall Hunter (2,587 from 2010-14) finished with 11 carries for 99 yards and a touchdown. Davis was 20-of-33 with one interception and Sam Harris had eight receptions for 141 yards and a score.

Davis completed 6 of 9 passes for all 80 of South Alabama's yards, including a 14-yard completion to Jamarius Way on third-and-10 and a 5-yard touchdown to Harris that gave the Jaguars a 24-20 lead with four seconds left in the first half. ULM moved into the red zone on the opening possession of the second half, but settled for a 32-yard field goal by Craig Ford and South Alabama (4-3, 4-1 Sun Belt Conference) answered with a seven-play, 75-yard drive to make it 30-23 on a 20-yard touchdown catch by Maaseiah Francis with 6:38 left in the third.

Ben Luckett had 11 carries for 91 yards and two touchdowns and Caleb Davis passed for 179 yards and added 90 yards rushing, including a 17-yard touchdown, for Louisiana Monroe (3-3, 3-1).
