Bill Hamid preserves DC's win
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Eddie Johnson and Luis Silva each scored in the first half, and Bill Hamid made close-range saves in the 89th and 91st minutes to lift D.C. United to a 2-1 win over the San Jose Earthquakes on Friday night.
D.C. United (9-5-4) won its third straight game on the road.
Johnson converted a penalty kick in the lower right corner to give United a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute. It was awarded after Chris Rolfe's shot attempt hit Brandon Barklage's extended left hand inside the penalty area.
Silva added to United's lead in the 25th minute with his sliding touch of Rolfe's cross.
The Earthquakes' Chris Wondolowski scored on a deflected shot in the 39th minute in his first appearance since the World Cup. San Jose (4-8-4) had not scored in its previous three matches -- all ending at 1-0.
