Lyon title hopes over

Lyon were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Bordeaux on Saturday as their faint hopes of overhauling Paris St Germain in the Ligue 1 title race came to a disappointing end.Lyon needed to make up a six-point difference and an inferior goal difference in the final two rounds to pip PSG, but neither of the two results they needed in the penultimate round went their way. While PSG were en route to a 2-1 victory at Montpellier, Lyon could not find a winner against Bordeaux, despite seeing Nabil Fekir quickly wipe out Enzo Crivelli's third-minute opener for the visitors.Lyon could barely have got off to a worse start in a match they had to win, with Bordeaux taking the lead with the first chance of the match. Some lapse defending allowed Crivelli to meet Henri Saivet's corner and turn the ball beyond Anthony Lopes from close range.Lyon were back on terms within four minutes, though, as Fekir jinked his way inside the area before slotting the ball beyond Cedric Carrasso. However, that was as good as it would get for Lyon, who not only could not find a winner, but were somewhat fortunate to even escape with a point.Diego Rolan and Saivet both had chances to restore Bordeaux's advantage as half-time approached, but Rolan fired just wide of Lopes' goal after cutting in before Saivet saw his powerful effort pushed away by the Lyon number one.Bordeaux wasted another great opportunity to retake the lead on the hour mark when Mariano's cross found Crivelli but he completely missed the ball with Lopes stranded in the Lyon goal.Lyon responded well and Steed Malbranque played in Alexandre Lacazette, who held off a couple of challenges before seeing his shot flirt with the right post. Both sides then had dangerous-looking free-kicks in a matter of minutes, although neither could take advantage as Bordeaux's Walid Khazri saw his set-piece fly over Lopes' crossbar before Fekir's effort at the other end was gathered with ease by Carrasso. With time running out, Bordeaux had a late penalty shout turned down when Lindsay Rose appeared to use his arm to play the ball back to keeper Lopes but referee Benoit Millot offered no response.
