Draw dents Monaco title hopes

Monaco's Ligue 1 title hopes suffered a major blow on Saturday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Rennes.Bernardo Silva had the hosts ahead in the first half but Habib Habibou netted the equaliser with just three minutes remaining.The result leaves Monaco six points behind leaders Paris St Germain with just five games to play while the club from the capital also have a game in hand.After a quiet start, Rennes had the first chance as Paul-Georges Ntep beat Wallace in the air to get to Benjamin Andre's cross but he could only head wide.Play went straight down the other end for Dimitar Berbatov to set up Elderson and, although the full-back volleyed wide, Monaco did not have long to wait for their opener.Centre-half Mexer played a loose pass and Silva was on hand to pounce, bear down on goal and beat Benoit Costil in the 27th minute.Silva almost had a second shortly before the break but he volleyed Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco's cross over the bar.Ferreira-Carrasco was having some joy out wide and found Fabinho but his shot from distance cleared the crossbar.Rennes were failing to make much of an impact in the second half but when Ola Toivonen's free-kick was cleared as far as Ntep, he could not keep his shot down.Silva was at the centre of most of Monaco's best work and he freed Anthony Martial but the 19-year-old rushed his shot and fired wide.Danijel Subasic had had a quiet night in the Monaco goal but was called into action with 15 minutes remaining as Kamil Grosicki found Toivonen inside the box and the goalkeeper had make a point-blank save.And with three minutes remaining Rennes were level. Ntep's cross was headed into the path of Habibou by Grosicki and the substitute fired home from 12 yards.
