Iron too strong for Posh

Mark Robins celebrated his first victory as Scunthorpe boss as the Iron heaped the pressure on Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson with a 2-1 win at London Road.Robins' men climbed off the bottom of the League One standings while their hosts tumbled out of the play-off places after a third successive defeat.Loanee Luke Williams fired Scunthorpe ahead with his first goal since making a temporary switch from Middlesbrough. The teenager wriggled through a couple of weak defensive challenges before prodding a shot past Posh goalkeeper Ben Alnwick in the 14th minute. The struggling visitors could have doubled their lead early in the second period when Alnwick denied Paddy Madden and Lyle Taylor slammed a rebound against the crossbar after a long-range Gary McSheffrey shot had been parried. But Peterborough hauled themselves level as substitute Conor Washington coolly converted his sixth goal of the season following a poor clearance from Scunthorpe keeper Sam Slocombe in the 57th minute.Parity was short-lived though as Scunthorpe clinched victory seven minutes later when the unfortunate Ricardo Santos was credited with an own goal after inadvertently deflecting an Isaiah Osbourne shot into his own net.
