Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 SC Freiburg
Haris Seferovic's goal was enough for Eintracht Frankfurt to make a winning start to the season, beating Freiburg 1-0 at the Waldstadion. The much-travelled Swiss forward, who last season represented Real Sociedad after spells in Switzerland and Italy, opened his Frankfurt account after just 15 minutes, and that proved to be enough to see off Freiburg. The visitors played their part in the game, though, and were unfortunate not to return home with a point at least.Freiburg came into the season without the excuse they had in the first half of last season, when they were also involved in the Europa League, and the difference was evident. There was no thought of saving energy this time around and they launched attack after attack.Jonathan Schmid could have given them an early lead, but he scooped his shot over the crossbar from 15 yards out.Frankfurt were not so wasteful with their first attack of the game, which led to them taking the lead. The ball somehow found its way through to Seferovic, who accepted the invitation to place his shot first time into the far corner of Roma Burki's goal. The trend of Freiburg attacking and Frankfurt defending continued into the second half too, until the visitors ran out of steam. Before that happened, Schmid and Admir Mehmedi had wasted chances, but it was a former Freiburg player, Johannes Flum, who had the best chance of the second half late on.He only had Burki to beat, but instead sent his shot wide of the target in the 86th minute. It was not a costly miss, though, as Thomas Schaaf was able to celebrate a winning start to life as Frankfurt coach.ends
