Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk 0-1 FK Qarabag
FK Karabakh of Azerbaijan picked up their first Europa League win of the season by securing a 1-0 victory against Dnipro in Dnipropetrovsk.Muarem Muarem scored the only goal of the game midway through the first half, capping off a fine Karabakh counter-attack by despatching a fizzing low drive into the net.The result leaves Karabakh second in Group F, three points behind leaders Inter Milan with four points from their three games. Dnipro, meanwhile, are bottom with one point from their three matches.Dniro went into the encounter having secured a goalless draw at St Etienne last time out, while Karabakh lost 2-0 at Inter.Spurred on by home support, Dnipro started brightly, but the Ukrainian side only had yellow cards for defender Artem Fedetskiy and midfielder Serhiy Kravchenko to show for their opening endeavours.Karabakh took the lead in the 21st minute and the visitors did it in style.Muarem evaded the attention of two Dnipro defenders on the left flank, cut inside on to his right foot and unleashed a fierce low shot past Dnipro goalkeeper Denys Boyko to cap off a blistering counter-attack move. With Yevhen Konoplyanka particularly lively, Dnipro upped the tempo after conceding but, try as they might, they were unable to break down a resolute Karabakh defence before the interval.Striker Yevhen Seleznyov replaced the ineffectual Yevgen Shakhov at the start of the second half as Dnipro manager Myron Markevych sought a cutting edge. Centre-back Mazuch missed the target five minutes after the restart in a rare Dnipro foray forward as Karabakh hardly broke a sweat as they effortlessly preserved their lead.Seleznyov had to wait 14 minutes for his first effort on goal and, unfortunately for the Ukraine international, his goalbound effort was blocked by Karabakh defender Maksim Medvedev. That was about as good as it got for the hosts who rarely troubled the Karabakh defence and the Azerbaijani side deservedly secured their first victory in the competition this season.ends
