Saivet to the rescue

Henri Saivet's stoppage-time free-kick denied St Etienne three points as Bordeaux salvaged a 1-1 Ligue 1 draw in dramatic fashion. Romain Hamouma finished off a fine team move just before the hour mark to give Les Verts the lead and that had looked set to give the hosts their first victory of the embryonic season. However, Bordeaux, who were also beaten in the opening round of fixtures, came away with something thanks to Saivet's smart set-piece from the edge of the area late on.Jean-Christophe Bahebeck, wearing the number seven shirt previously used by new Bournemouth recruit Max Gradel, made his St Etienne debut but was unable to mark that with a goal when he headed wide in the first period.St Etienne's opener came from a 58th-minute counter-attacking move down the right, with Fabien Lemoine eventually shifting the ball out to the left-hand side of the area where Hamouma was on hand to sweep home with a first-time finish.Saivet then served warning to the hosts with a shot from the edge of the area which crashed against the crossbar and the 24-year-old Senegal international eventually found the net in the first minute of time added on.From the free-kick, positioned slightly left of centre, Moustapha Bayal Sall broke off the end of the wall and Saivet saw his opportunity, bending the ball inside the green shirts in front of him while goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier remained rooted to the spot, to ensure Les Girondins did not go home empty handed.
