Pablo Sanchez's third-minute goal proved to be the decisive strike as the Spaniard powered Adelaide United to their first win of the A-League season in a 1-0 victory over Perth Glory.

The result lifts United off the foot of the Australian top-flight table, overtaking now-bottom Perth in the process. With the three points, Adelaide now sit eighth in the A-League.

Sanchez got United off to a flying start after the match had been delayed for two-and-a-half hours because of temperatures approaching 40 degrees C.

The home crowd at Coopers Stadium were treated to a dream start, though, when Sanchez chipped in the only goal of the match after controlling a long ball from Michael Marrone just after the two-minute mark.

Sunday's game was just Sanchez's second start of the season, and the Spaniard could well have added to his tally, missing a pair of close-range finishes throughout the 90 minutes.
